BIS interpreters must take positive and continual steps
to improve their performance and abilities in order to receive compensation
beyond minimal merit pay increases. To that end, BIS has established a
rigorous and effective system that ensures that our interpreters are always
focused on making themselves better at what they do:
- A "point pay" system that provides financial
incentive for employees to continue improving themselves through experience,
education and certifications. This system also helps us attract highly
qualified interpreters since their pay is also based on the number of
"points" they have on their résumé when they
join us.
- Quarterly performance reviews as well as periodic reviews
of progress toward agreed-upon objectives and areas of improvement.
- Establishment of annual goals for professional
development, skill building, workshop attendance and certification maintenance/pursuit-and
pay increases based on achievement of those goals.
